Chapter Scholarships

The Southwest Florida Chapter has been designated as a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service.  In order to obtain this status the chapter had to agree to award scholarships and to use chapter funds for additional educational purposes.

The chapter scholarship program calls for two scholarships to be awarded to WVU students for each school year provided that sufficient funds are available.  Other program features are as follow:

a.   The scholarship program will be administered by a scholarship committee comprised of at least five chapter members.

b.   One scholarship will be awarded to a student already enrolled at WVU while the second scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman.

c.   Students seeking a scholarship must be nominated by a chapter member.

d.    A scholarship to a given student may be renewed up to three times if approved by the scholarship committee.  A student seeking such a renewal must be a full time student at WVU, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and frequently inform the chapter of their academic progress.

e.    The scholarship committee will meet each spring to issue a call for student nominations.  Applications will be sent to all nominated students.  Follow on meetings will be held to: evaluate and rate the applications received.; select three finalists for each scholarship; arrange for the finalists to be interviewed by a person associated with WVU; and select the scholarship winners.

f.     Scholarship winners will be notified in writing by the chapter president.

g.   Checks for the scholarship amounts will be sent directly to WVU made payable to the student and WVU.

To date, four scholarships of $1,000.00 each have been awarded.  Chapter members are asked to contribute to the scholarship fund.  All such contributions are tax deductible.
